Cookie Policy
Portal version 1.0
This policy covers the Contractor Compliance Portal (portal.contractor-compliance.co.uk). Our website, contractor-compliance.co.uk, has its own cookie policy.
Why we use cookies
Cookies are small text files, which often include a unique identifier that is sent by a web server to your computer, mobile phone or any other internet enabled device when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used to make websites work efficiently and help provide us with business information to enable us to make informed decisions on the development of the portal.
Some services also keep similar information in your browser's storage (local storage and session storage). In this policy, "cookies" includes that storage.
What cookies we use
We use the following types of cookies:
- Essential: Necessary cookies help make the portal usable by enabling basic functions like page navigation, signing in and access to secure areas of the portal. The portal cannot function properly without these cookies, so they do not need your consent.
- Performance: Performance cookies help us understand how the portal is used by visitors. This information can then be used to improve the way the portal works. We only set these cookies if you agree.

Hotjar collects information such as the pages you visit, how you click, scroll and move around a page, your device and browser type, and your approximate location based on your IP address. Hotjar is provided by Hotjar Ltd in Malta. You can read Hotjar's privacy policy and the full list of cookies Hotjar sets.

Other services the portal uses
Some parts of the portal load files from other companies. These services do not set cookies through the portal, but your browser connects to them, so they receive your IP address and browser details:
- Google Fonts (Google): the fonts used on every page.
- jsDelivr: the charts on the dashboard after you sign in.
- UI Avatars (ui-avatars.com): the picture of your initials shown in the menu after you sign in. Your initials are sent to the service to create it.
- Tiny Cloud (Tiny Technologies): the text editor in our staff admin area. It is only used by Contractor Compliance Portal staff.
If you set up a Direct Debit, we send you to GoCardless's own pages to complete it. GoCardless sets its own cookies there, as described in GoCardless's own cookie policy.
Personal information from cookies
Our cookies do not contain information such as your name or address. However, our session cookie connects your visit to your account while you are signed in, and Hotjar's cookies give your browser a random ID, so the information they help collect can relate to you. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.
How to withdraw consent to, control and/or delete cookies
When you first visit the portal, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. You can choose "Accept analytics" or "Reject". You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" button at the bottom left of the portal's pages, which opens the banner again.
If you reject analytics cookies or withdraw your consent, Hotjar stops loading from the next page you open, and we delete the portal's Hotjar cookies and browser storage from your browser. We ask you again after 182 days, or sooner if we make an important change to this policy.
Essential cookies are set whenever you use the portal. It is possible to remove cookies or block them from recording this information. You also have the option of blocking third party cookies only. This option is generally found within the 'Options' menu then 'Privacy' section of your browser. Each browser is slightly different and constantly updating. However, if you block essential cookies you will not be able to sign in to the portal.
